The First Christmas Tree – Part One

A Christmas Nativity scene - not a bland, nondescript holiday display

Have you ever heard parents lament over how their children pay more attention to the gifts under the tree at Christmastime than to the reason for the tree? Then perhaps this two-part fictional story will be the perfect gift from my family to yours. It was written to help put Christ back into Christmas while celebrating all the gala traditions that have become associated with the holiday. Hopefully, It will transport young and old alike to the time of Christ and the very first Christmas tree that was cut down just before Easter.

Anti-Jewish historical error

The Torah, one of many documents defining a Jew, the nature of God, and the elements of faith. It could be the blueprint for a Godly Israel. And a key source of the rule of law in Israel--or it should be. Is the ingathering of the Jews in the offing? But these Jews must turn to God, Whom their leaders, and the public in Israel, seem to have forsaken. (What parallels exist between Judaism and George Lucas' Jedi ideal?) It names many heroes, including Abraham and Sarah.

The Palestinian Authority (PA), is the 1993 successor of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Far from being the “peace partner” of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the PA is in fact a consortium of Muslim-Arab terrorist organizations. The written constitution of the PA commits Muslims to the annihilation of Israel. Apparently, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and his boss President Barack Obama have not perused that Muslim document, which echoes Hitler’s racist and genocidal Mein Kampf.

Theological error

Pope Francis would be on more solid theological grounds if he were to call upon Muslims to apologize for their sins against the Jewish people as did Pope John Paul II.

Jacob Emden on Christianity

The Torah, one of many documents defining a Jew, the nature of God, and the elements of faith. It could be the blueprint for a Godly Israel. And a key source of the rule of law in Israel--or it should be. Is the ingathering of the Jews in the offing? But these Jews must turn to God, Whom their leaders, and the public in Israel, seem to have forsaken. (What parallels exist between Judaism and George Lucas' Jedi ideal?) It names many heroes, including Abraham and Sarah.

Rabbi Emden(1697–1776) was one of the leading Torah authorities of the past several centuries. Historians of the rabbinate have often compared. him to Maimonides, both having written on all branches of Jewish knowledge, and both having shared a pragmatic and even innovative approach. Even those who disagreed with him sought his opinion, and he is read with interest to this day. Thus, Moses Mendelssohn, founder of the Haskalah (Enlightenment) movement, wrote to him as “your disciple, who thirsts for your words.” Although Emden did not approve of the Hasidic movement–which had its beginnings in his time–his books are highly regarded amongst Hasidim. R. M. Sofer referred to him as a “prophet” (Halam Sofer 6:59). Thirty-one works were published during his lifetime, ten posthumously while others remain in manuscript. In his time, he was a fearless champion of Orthodox Judaism.

Resurrection Sunday

Western Wall. Under a two state solution, Jews could not approach it.

Today we celebrate the greatest gift that humankind has ever received: the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. To understand that is to recognize the high stakes of man’s relationship with God.

Same-sex marriage and religious freedom

The Constitution, which sets forth the principle of rule of law, defines what is unconstitutional, and guarantees freedom of speech and other liberties of a Constitutional republic, and also describes the impeachment power. (How many know of the Jewish roots of this document?) Hypocrisy threatens Constitutional government. Could Israel use a constitution like this? More to the point: would a Convention of States save it, or destroy it? (Example: civil asset forfeiture violates the Constitution.) Quick fixes like Regulation Freedom Amendments weaken it. Furthermore: the Constitution provides for removing, and punishing, a judge who commits treason in his rulings. Furthermore, opponents who engage in lawfare against an elected President risk breaking the Constitution.

In a news conference today, a reporter asked President Obama about whether he supported same-sex marriage. He said that DOMA (the federal Defense of Marriage Act) and similar State laws that protect marriage as between a man and a woman were unconstitutional. And then he said that New York’s law that permits same-sex marriages is constitutional.

Anti-Semitism program disbanded at Yale

Yale and Mizzou are no longer what universities used to be. Academia is in anarchy, and by no accident.

Yale will soon disband its scholarly anti-Semitism program. This happened because Jews are divided, but Muslims are not.

The Yale anti-Semitism program

In 2006, Yale University founded the Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Anti-Semitism (YIISA). It was the first program of its kind, and still the only one. Charles Small, who also founded the Institute for the Study of Global Anti-Semitism and Policy, directed. YIISA ran a series of seminars on the subject, beginning in the fall of 2006.
