Majority of Republicans disapprove of Mitch McConnell’s performance, new Gallup poll shows
A new Gallup poll published Monday showed a majority of Republicans disapprove of Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)
The poll asked respondents their opinions of eleven prominent US political figures including President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Chief Justice John Roberts, and others.
Among them, Chief Justice Roberts polled highest with a 60 percent approval rating, in stark contrast to McConnell, who polled lowest at only 32 percent. Only 46 percent of Republicans polled said they approved of the job McConnell is doing, while 52 percent disapproved.
At the top of the ratings, just below Chief Justice Roberts, are Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell (53%) and Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Dr. Anthony Fauci (52%). The three were the only ones out of the eleven who polled positively.
In comparison to his Congressional counterparts, McConnell polled poorly. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) received an overall 40 percent, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Shumer came in at 44 percent. Republicans approved of House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.) at 46 percent.
