House Representative Nicole Malliotakis tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday morning after experiencing mild symptoms, including a fever, according to a statement from her Communications Director, Natalie Baldassarre, to The Hill.

“After experiencing mild symptoms and a slight fever, Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, who is vaccinated, tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. Since testing, she has been quarantining at home and is feeling well which she attributes to having been vaccinated,” said Baldassarre.

She continued, “The Congresswoman continues to urge individuals to get tested prior to traveling or visiting loved ones this Christmas.” Malliotakis’ office told SILive on Tuesday that the representative has not received her booster dose of the vaccine.

As Rep. Malliotakis (R) quarantines at home, she says her office has “already communicated to the governor’s office and FEMA that Staten Island and Brooklyn would benefit from additional sites to cut down on wait times.”

New York City has seen a massive surge in COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks as the omicron variant spreads, and testing is difficult to access amid the rise in cases. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called the increase in positive infections “staggering” in a public address on Tuesday. The CDC announced that 90 percent of COVID-19 infections are a result of the omicron variant in the metro area.
