Florida elementary school children taken on field trip to known gay bar
A Florida school board member chaperoned a group of elementary school children on a field trip to a gay bar, according to photos of the trip she posted to social media.
“I was SO honored to be invited to chaperone Wilton Manors Elementary’s field trip to the incredible Rosie’s! The students and I had a fun walk over and learned a lot about our community! A huge thank you to Rosie’s Bar and Grill for hosting this special field trip every year!” Broward County School Board member Sarah Leonardi posted on her official school board Facebook page Wednesday. Commenters quickly questioned whether a bar, gay or not, is any place to take young children on a field trip in the first place.
“Regardless if it’s a gay bar or not….it’s a bar!! Why are kids going on a field trip TO A BAR?!?!,” one Twitter user posted. “Could honestly care less if the establishment was “gay” or whatever WHY A BAR OF ALL THINGS,” someone else tweeted. The school did not reply to a request for comment from DailyMail.com.
The children were pictured inside the bar, which features rainbow-colored décor and suggestive menu items that also include Naked Sweaty Lovin’ chicken tenders that are ‘marinated in Rosie’s own “Smack My Cheeks and Make ‘em Rosy” sauce.’ Rosie’s bar and grill, which opened in 2006, is located in Wilton Manors near Fort Lauderdale and operates during the day as a restaurant that also serves alcohol.
“Whether you come for lunch or dinner, for Sunday Funday Brunch or for just a few drinks… whether you are LBGTQ+ or an ally…whether you are local or visiting… whether you come with a group or venture out solo… you will have a memorable experience with the most talented crew in South Florida,” the bar and grill writes on it’s website.
“Rosie’s is the place to see…and be seen!,” the description added. An online review of Rosie’s Bar and Grill from 2019 says it is located in a ‘primarily gay area’ and described it as a place to have a ‘gay old time!’
