Reality check

Ballot box, symbol of elections. The Texas voter ID law will stop people from stuffing this, and hopefully other kinds of voter fraud. If Donald Trump doesn't insist on this kind of backup, he'll likely lose the election.

The GOP tsunami that swept through the halls of Congress on November 4th purged the people’s house of some of the trash but not all of it. Excitement about stripping Harry Reid of his iron fist in the Senate and further distancing Nancy Pelosi from her dreams of gaining back control of the House is certainly justifiable. However, America needs to remain diligent. The Republicans may be better than the Democrats – but only slightly. I shudder to think that the future of this country rests in the hands of men like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell – and worse – so many think that is a “good thing.” Reality check: if you are thinking all is well in the world because Republicans have a majority in both Houses, you are greatly mistaken.

Reality check: Republicans lack true grit

Reality check: the people must still keep watch

There are only two things that could put America back on the right track and neither one of them are the people who have grown increasingly corrupt under the pretense of caring for us. Their lack of true grit has shown us time and again that they will not have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to America’s would be king. Only God and We the People can save America – and hopefully the celebrations of November 4th haven’t erased that from our collective memories. For those who have witnessed the decline of one of the greatest nations on earth, the realization should be that it began when we started taking God out of everything and started trusting that those who represented us had our best interests at heart. With a few exceptions, they didn’t and they don’t. They care about building their own careers and have succumbed to the siren’s song of power. We only seem to matter to them during campaign season. And if truth be told, we only pay attention to what they are saying (never mind what they are doing) during campaign season.

Signs of hope

But there are signs of hope. The pastors who gathered in Houston on I Stand Sunday to boldly proclaim that not only will they preach as they are led by God but they will also begin to endorse Godly men and women candidates, which right they have under the Constitution. God bless these pastors who have taken a stand – a little late in the game but as the old saying goes – better late than never.

If the churches do their part we must be sure to do ours as well. We have to make it clear to the new wave of Republicans who have been empowered by the recent elections that they serve us and not the other way around. We the People must stay informed, and stay engaged, and learn to speak with one voice. One of the ways recently put together was the initiative known as Troops for Defense Only, which can be found on Facebook. This initiative was designed to defend our troops but also to make it clear in the halls of Congress that those ivory halls belong to the people and don’t serve as their personal ivory towers. If you haven’t visited the Facebook page yet and participate in the initiative, don’t let another day go by without doing so – and helping to spread the word. We have to keep this ball rolling – especially in light of BO’s latest orders to deploy our troops to Iraq. His reasoning: they are going to assist the Iraqis, not to engage in battle. Reality check: their Rules of Engagement will not allow them to defend themselves reasonably and will essentially turn them into sitting ducks in Isis’ sites. To stop America’s would be king; America has to strip him of his power.

So many think that it’s now up to the Republican’s to save America; it is not. It is up to We the People and God. Of course we expect Congress to do “something” but based on past history that “something” will not stand against a bully president who refuses to listen to anyone other than his own narcissistic voice. Therefore, while Congress has a mandate to reel in this out of control delusional would be king; it is our job to reel in Congress and demand better than we have seen in the past. If we don’t step up to the plate as the pastors in Houston have done, we will lose by default. And that is the reality of the situation: either we continue the fight or we lose. We may have gained some momentum, but we need to make it to the finish line before we pass the baton to the next generation. Yes, we won a few battles this week but the war rages on. Keep alert for the enemy of our souls and this nation walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may destroy. Therefore, remain vigilant!
