Obama birth certificate investigation

Published

on

The Obama birth certificate. Why is this still accepted as valid? The Birther movement still matters, for the precedent.

The mainstream media, ever late to the party, are at last reporting on the Obama birth certificate story. Most of their reports drip with scorn. But the Arizona sheriff who broke the story two days ago now says that his investigation will not stop with one press conference.

Latest Obama birth certificate news

The latest news comes not from the mainstream media, of course, but from WND. Bob Unruh filed this exclusive (by default) report on the steps that Sheriff Joe Arpaio, of Maricopa County, Arizona, will take next. Two days ago, Arpaio’s all-volunteer Cold Case Posse revealed evidence that the Obama birth certificate file that the White House released last year was a forgery. (And not only a forgery but an amateurish one.) The Posse said that they had identified a “person of interest” in the case, without giving that person’s name. Now WND reports that the Posse have briefed active law officers who would be involved in hunting that person down.

In other words, the Sheriff’s office takes this investigation seriously, and is going through the logical next steps. Unruh’s report says only that the Posse is “briefing” those officers on the “status of the evidence.” But that is one step closer to the office using phrases like “wanted for questioning” and “material witness.”

What evidence the sheriff has

On Thursday, Sheriff Arpaio and the Cold Case Posse said that:

  • The Obama birth certificate document has “anomalies” that make it look like a forgery, “anomalies” that they cannot reasonably explain.
  • Someone in the White House seems to have acted with fraudulent intent by releasing that document as if it were real and authentic.
  • Barack H. Obama’s Selective Service registration also looks like a forgery.
  • Obama might, for all that the Posse can say for certain, have been born overseas after all.

The Posse said that last after finding that records of persons entering the country from Kenya during a critical period were missing from the National Archives:

To quell the popular idea that Obama was actually born outside the United States, we examined the records of Immigration and Naturalization Service cards routinely filled out by airplane passengers arriving on international flights that originated outside the United States in the month of August 1961 [Obama’s birth month]. Those records are housed at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Interestingly, records from the days surrounding Obama’s birth, August 1, 1961 to August 7, 1961 are missing. This is the only week in 1961 were these immigration cards cannot be found.

This is the most stunning piece of evidence that the Cold Case Posse revealed: a seven-day gap in records of persons entering the country, not merely from Kenya but from everywhere in the world. (CNAV apologizes for referring earlier to a nine-day gap instead of a seven-day gap.) The Obama birth certificate says that Obama was born on August 4, 1961.

(The Obama birth certificate document also has what looks like a rubber-stamp date of August 8, 1961, as the date that the Hawaii registrar accepted the certificate. But that date exists over two of the many layers of the PDF document, and one of the characters looks like s strikeover.)

How the press report it

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, latest to investigate the Obama birth certificate

Joe Arpaio, Sheriff of Maricopa County, AZ.

The Associated Press issued this report (from the Chicago Sun-Times) yesterday morning. The AP almost called Sheriff Arpaio a publicity hound, and duly noted that Arpaio is under investigation himself for alleged abuses of power. But the AP will not talk about the political motives behind those investigations. Thus far no one has brought credible evidence that the sheriff has done anything more serious than vigorously enforce the law and try to run his prison system without breaking the county bank.

Nor did the sheriff seek out the Obama birth certificate story to investigate. Instead, 250 Tea Party activists petitioned him to investigate, and not allow an ineligible name to appear on ballots for Presidential electors for Arizona in 2012. The sheriff asked the Cold Case Posse to look into it, because they work free of charge. They in turn expected to validate the Obama birth certificate, before they found evidence that it is invalid.

Jim Kouri, in Eurasia Reviews, got the point. He should know; he sits on the Board of the National Association of Chiefs of Police. He’s familiar, both with the Obama birth certificate issue and the reputation of “Sheriff Joe” for his often unconventional approach to law enforcement. Kouri picked up on one other point that the AP missed:

Arpaio further stressed the Hawaii Department of Health needs to provide, as part of the full disclosure, evidence regarding the chain of custody of all Obama birth records, including paper, microfilm, and electronic records, in order to eliminate the possibility that a forger or forgers may have tampered with the birth records.

Of course they should. “Chain of custody” is a fancy word for “Who handled this document after the original typist typed it out?” The Hawaii Department of Health won’t say. Until they do, we have no reason to believe that the Obama birth certificate is even truthful.

Lourdes Medrano of The Christian Science Monitor seems to think that the Obama birth certificate case is just a game to Arpaio. Bob Unruh has shown conclusively that, as far as Arpaio see it, this is not a game.

Barbara and David Mikkelson, of Snopes fame, are playing games. Two weeks before the press conference, they trotted out the same theories that the Cold Case Posse considered and discarded, to explain the many layers in the Obama birth certificate file:

  1. Someone optimized it for a wide release, so that many downloads would not crash the White House server, or
  2. Someone scanned the document into a computer and then treated the file with an Optical Character Recognition program.

The Cold Case Posse showed that neither program could have produced layers like these. (For one thing, none of the layers contains machine-readable or editable text.)

What this issue means

In 2008, some anonymous supporters of Hillary Clinton’s primary campaign first suggested that the man now holding office as President, Barack H. Obama, was not born in the United States after all. Obama has always insisted that he was. Many lawyers, including most famously Phil Berg and Orly Taitz, have insisted equally vehemently that he was not (or at least that he cannot prove that he was). Other lawyers, and pro se litigants, have said that even his birthplace would not make him a natural-born citizen within the meaning of Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 5 of the Constitution. The reason: his father was a British colonial subject, and the United States government never naturalized him.

Obama never disputed his parentage. He merely dismissed it as irrelevant. Natural-born citizenship, according to him and his supporters, can derive either from the Law of the Soil or the Law of the Blood. The best applicable Supreme Court precedent, Minor v. Happersett, says that natural-born citizenship needs both. But now a conscientious sheriff has suggested that Obama might meet neither rule for natural-born citizenship.

That is something that too many news organs would rather ignore. Some of their reporters and editors voted for Obama in 2008, and plan to do so again this year. More to the point, none of them seem to want to face an unpleasant prospect: that someone stole the office of President of the United States.

Will you please step back and LOOK at what you’re saying!

Of your four points of “evidence”, one even starts with “Obama might”. The other three are simple re-hashes of idiot conspiracy theories that have already been disproved!

If you want to look like an idiot racist, then keep going the way you’re going. If you want to be taken seriously as a journalist then step back, take a breath, and ask yourself whether any of this stuff is really evidence, or whether it’s the ramblings of a set of paranoid minds.

The ONE sensible argument that teabaggers make is that Obama isn’t a natural-born citizen because Obama Sr was a Kenyan citizen. If you had framed a lawsuit around that idea, you might have got a SCOTUS hearing. Instead your chum Purpura created a Christmas Tree where you hang every single thing you don’t like about Obama onto one branch. It was always going to fail.

So will you please wake up?

The birth certificate is entirely genuine, and there are so many explanations for things like the layering that you MUST be TRYING to avoid them if you still don’t get it. The draft card… same thing.

Why should I care, given that I don’t live in the US? Well I’d like to see a fair fight between Obama and Romney. The more you go on about this birther nonsense, the more you help Obama. Reflect on that, please.

Timothy Wayne

“Cold Case Posse” sound like a gangster rap group. This couldn’t possibly be a publicity stunt, could it? Something like making prison inmates wear pink underwear? Somehow I doubt Obama is going to be deported anytime soon. And, if republicans can’t stop embarrassing themselves attempting to smear him, he will be president again without much of a fight.

poot

Yeah, yeah… say, how many of that “cold case posse” do you suppose are Democrats…? I’m sure it’s a highly unbiased group, right?

Peter

I don’t get it. The most controversial sheriff in the United States (who is currently under investigation by a federal grand jury on criminal abuse-of-power allegations btw) starts a new “investigation” that returns the same old debunked conspiracy claims that have already been proven false and this is somehow news?

Get a grip and get over it – you are embarrassing yourselves.

@Terry

The reason why the Snopes page was not updated until two weeks before Arpaio came out with the results of his “investigation” is that there have been no new developments or pieces of information introduced that have not already been debunked by numerous third party sources. Every argument made by birthers has been disproven by experts.

Please point out the new pieces of information introduced by Arpaio’s findings that have not already been proven false.

Peter – Re: Your 3/3/12 – 7:32 pm comment,

You are right about one thing. You state that you “don’t get it.”

I’ll tell you why that you don’t “get it.”

First of all, you state, that Sheriff Joe is “The most controversial sheriff in the United States.” [Your description] I ask: How do you know that? Who told you? An Obama propagandist blogger or a lib media AP or Huffington Post blogger? Or, did you conjure this conspiracy type theory idea, up in your own mind?

Secondly, you provide no evidence for your frivolous claim that Sheriff Joe is “the most controversial sheriff in the United States,” [your words] except to say that he is under investigation that was spearheaded by the corrupt Obama Administration’s Attorney General who is on a Congressional committee hot seat for his direct involvement in the “Fast and Furious” investigation.

Thirdly, you are dishonest in your description of Sheriff Joe. You dishonestly imply (or, at least insinuate) that Sheriff Joe started his investigation after he was being investigated.

Fourthly, you are dishonest in saying that Sheriff Joe “returns the same old debunked conspiracy claims that have already been proven false and this is somehow news?” [Your far fetched words of conclusion] The reality, is, that Sheriff Joe has not returned what you claim. He took up a request to investigate, of which he did. He had a legitimate team to do that. It took months. That team dealt with reality, not “conspiracy claims,” [your dishonest appraisal].

Fifth, you make the mistake of saying that Sheriff Joe’s “returns” “have already been proven false and this is somehow news.”
I ask: How have these “returns” been proven false? And, on what logical basis can you honestly make that assertion?

Peter – I seriously recommend for you to acquire some counseling. If not that, please meet regularly with someone who can help you retrain your thinking skills. If you cannot avail yourself of that for fear of embarrassment, please take some college logic course or do some serious study to help you think more clearly.

Finally, don’t believe everything you hear and read in the propaganda imaginary world of liberal extremism.

Peter

@Pastor Nate

I realize now that I should have used other language in describing Sheriff Arpaio as there certainly is no official list of “most controversial sheriffs” and that it was indeed my own opinion. This opinion, however, was not made without fact, as he has been criticized by government agencies and organizations including (but not limited to): the ACLU, the Arizona Ecumenical Council, the US Dept. of Justice, US District Courts, the American Jewish Committee, and the Anti-Defamation League. I have provided below various links documenting these controversies from which I formulated my original opinion:

Please let me know if you’d like me to provide additional evidence from which I made my original statement.

In regards to your points surrounding the results of Arpaio’s “investigation”, can you please let me know what new facts have been uncovered or presented that have not already been debunked and/or dismissed by experts. I have included below a few links (non-“liberal media” links btw) that support the fact that President Obama’s birth certificate is legitimate.

Also, thanks for the invitation to “acquire some counseling”, but I’d probably recommend for you to do the same – I’m not the one who is ignoring the mountains of evidence in front of me!

Peter – Re: Your March 4, 2012 at 6:20 pm comment,

I’m sorry, but being (as you say), “criticized by government agencies and organizations” – that, is not necessarily a bad thing. Criticism is not the criterion for being truly discredited. People have their individual axes to grind.

As a Christian and emeritus Christian pastor, I am reminded of what Christ stated:

“Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you!…..” [Gospel of Luke 6:26] In other words, a person isn’t doing his job properly and acting rightly, if that person receives no opposition. The Scriptures speak of this type of moral integrity and clarity when it mentions about the [good] moral and godly character of a true friend – “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” [Proverbs 27:6]

I’m not saying that the Sheriff is perfect, as we all are sinners. But, I see the politics of personal destruction rearing its ugly head with Sheriff Arpaio being attacked the way he is. It’s the same old birther type of ridicule, at work. And, added to that, are the personal character assassination attempts.

Peter – The issue is Obama, not the Sheriff. It’s Obama’s credentials being investigated. They were under honest investigation. Apparently, you and others have joined in the destructive and dishonest chorus of attempted personal character assassination by trying to discredit Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s legitimate credentials.

I repeat – Sheriff Arpaio is not the issue, although the Obama deception charade crowd would like him to be. The good sheriff is dealing with reality while his detractors and personal character assassins deal with smoke and mirrors.

Timothy Wayne

I understood the article just fine…and my conclusion is Sheriff Arpaio is a media whore. Him and his gang are just playing cowboys and Indians (or Kenyans). Arpaio is a delusional, glorified Dog the Bounty Hunter (and I bet he sniffs the pink undies).

Timothy Wayne – Re: Your March 3, 2012 at 8:01 pm comment:

I rather find that your unsubstantiated comment is what is delusional. And, you got the “whore” accusation all wrong. It is the mainstream media outlets which are a whoring after their Jim Jones type [Obama] leader. Get the blinding media stardust out of your eyes. Then, you might appreciate people like Sheriff Arpaio.

Timothy – Re: Your March 3, 2012 at 6:42 pm comment:

You stated:

…..And, if republicans can’t stop embarrassing themselves attempting to smear him, he will be president again without much of a fight……

I say:

Republicans and Conservatives and those patriotic Americans who have any influence, only need to tell the truth about Obama. Why “smear” him when all that is needed, is to point out the reality of this two faced, Mr. Hyde. Please understand that I am not saying that Mr. Obama voices hate-mongering. He does it by his actions:

Timothy – You need not torture yourself by blinding yourself to reality.

Steen Vadstrup

Also in Europe Obamas birth is discussed. Are we witness to a big cover up. There are many more mysterious things than sheriff Arpaio has pointed out, such as the disapperance of birth records from a hospital in Mombasa during the time Obama was born. The silencing of Obamas grandmother i Kenya. The mystery of Obamas social security numbers. The lack of information on Obamas passport as a young person and the lack of information concerning Obamas University records, who paid tuition etc. Last but least the mystery concerning the actual birth in Hawaii, Which hospital was it and why havent we head from nurses and midwife present at the birth. The doctor present is conveniently dead some years ago.

Steen,

Yes. Very good points you make! There are too many aspects that, simply do not add up. Those who continue to heap ridicule and sarcasm upon those of us who believe that Obama is an illegitimate president, do so at risk of denying reality. As you point out, a significant amount of “anomalies” exist, so much so, that a reasonable person would have to wonder why those ridiculing “birthers” aren’t candidates for mental health evaluations and counseling.
