Petrodollars, War, Peace and Economics, Part 2

Petrodollars in action: a West Texas pumpjack well

Petrodollars served America’s governments well for more than 25 years, until other governments—and madmen—saw chances to rebel or conquer the world.

Israel celebrates its independence

How should Israel feel about trusting Putin's Bitch?

Israel began celebrating its independence today—and after 63 years, its people still cannot agree on how to approach the world around them.

Like all anniversaries in Israel and in Jewish family life, Israel observes its independence according to the Hebrew calendar of Rabbi Hillel II, who invented it in the fourth century AD. Today is 5 Iyyar 5771. The State of Israel declared independence, one day before the British Mandate of “Palestine” ran out, on 5 Iyyar 5708, or May 14, 1948.

Did Pakistan know where UBL was?

Osama Bin Laden compound. A terrorist attack to kill an ambassador, but not to avenge this?

As officials in Pakistan protest the raid that killed Usama bin Laden, some Members of Congress are asking whether those same officials knew that Bin Laden was hiding in their country and said nothing to the United States, this while taking billions in US foreign aid.

Prediction: Obama will feint right

Obama, hypocrite in chief at the National Prayer Breakfast

Disclaimer: Before beginning, I want to make two things clear:

  1. I am not, nor have I ever professed to be a prophet;
  2. I do not own, nor have I ever owned a crystal ball.

Therefore, I want it clearly understood that the following political prediction is based on history, not fortune-telling.

Al Qa’ida confirms UBL death

Usana Bin Laden listed as dead

The Al Qa’ida General Command issued a written eulogy of Osama bin Laden, announcing his death and vowing unspecified vengeance on the Western world.

The Associated Press and the Middle East Media Research Institute both carried the story. The statement, appearing on many jihadist websites, does not name Bin Laden’s successor nor threaten any specific retaliation. Calling Bin Laden’s death “an (sic) historic day in the days of the great Muslim Ummah,” the authors praised Bin Laden’s career in carrying out jihad against all the enemies of Islam and propounding the “spirit” of jihad.

UBL wanted to hit US trains on 9/11/2011

7 subway trains

Osama bin Laden wanted to derail trains in New York, Washington, and Chicago on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, intelligence sources revealed this evening.

Reports from Associated Press, Reuters, Agence France-Presse, CNN, The Daily Telegraph (London), and The New York Daily News revealed that US intelligence services discovered the plot after examining computer disks and other information-storage media that US Navy SEALs had seized in their May 1 raid on Bin Laden’s compound near Abbottabad, Pakistan. The SEALs killed Bin Laden, three other men, and one woman in that raid.

A 9/11 relative speaks about UBL’s death

World Trade Center Memorial

As President Barack H. Obama traveled to “Ground Zero” in Lower Manhattan to speak about the killing of Usama bin Laden, an actual 9/11 family member wanted no part of his “victory roll.”

Rosa Leonetti, a leader in the New Jersey chapter of Smart Girl Politics, spoke to your editor at 11:30 a.m. today. She began the interview by stating flatly that she was traveling to Ground Zero, but not to be part of any speechmaking by the President. “I want no part of the victory roll,” she said. Later on, she added:

Making a simple announcement that Usama bin Laden is dead, that was appropriate. But his trip to Ground Zero is not.

Arab reaction to UBL death mixed

Al Aqsa Mosque

Arab reaction to Bin Laden’s death is mixed, and varies between giddy pleasure and cold rage.

The Middle East Media Research Institute quotes Tariq Alhomayed, editor-in-chief of Al Sharq Al-Awsat (London) as saying that the world is now a better place with Bin Laden no longer in it.

[This] “holy warrior” hid in his million-dollar palace…our youth are in prisons…not to mention the many who are dead…[and] the financial losses…and the harm to the reputation of our religion.

Obama holds back UBL pictures

Osama Bin Laden compound. A terrorist attack to kill an ambassador, but not to avenge this?

The government will not release any photographs of Usama bin Laden at his death. But Reuters today released photographs of other casualties of the May 1 raid that were at least as gruesome as any of Bin Laden’s photographs are supposed to be.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney made the announcement early Wednesday afternoon (May 4), according to Fox News. He and President Barack H. Obama separately said that the release of any such photographs would “become icons to rally opinion against the United States.”

Obama v. Osama: who lies the most

Usana Bin Laden listed as dead

Perhaps the names can be a little confusing. I’ve heard more than a few people confuse the two names, but that’s not where the confusion ends. If you have followed the sensational story of the ultimate capture of America’s arch enemy, Osama Bin Laden, chances are you have noticed more than one “misspoken” word.

At first we all heard that a gun fight broke out, but of course now we hear that Obama – excuse me, Osama – wasn’t armed. We heard that the Seals had orders to capture him alive, if possible, but then we must reconcile that with the tale of an unarmed man hiding behind a woman. Then we hear that he didn’t hide behind a woman (his wife). Oh wait, now it seems that he threw the woman at the Seals but didn’t hide behind her. We hear that she died in the raid, and then we hear that she did not.
