United Nations and prophecy

Published

on

The United Nations, and especially its General Assembly, is chief instrument of globalism and international government today, and precursor of world government. (And zero population growth) The UN works against the sovereignty of nation-states.

Last week Pastor Stephan Nash wrote an article entitled: Get Your Hands Off Israel. In it he made the point that the spirit of the Anti-Christ not only hates Israel but also hates Christians. Pastor Nash was right to relate current events to prophecies regarding the “End Times.” However, the relationship between prophecies and current events goes beyond traits attributed to the Anti-Christ or the spirit of the Anti-Christ.

Unfortunately, many believe that reading the Book of Revelation is too confusing for the average person to understand. That is true. But taking time and studying the Book is a blessing, as Revelation 1:3 promises. Many also believe that prophetic writings serve as a type of crystal ball, so they tend to treat them as things that tickle the ear. They miss the point. There are reasons God has dedicated nearly one-third of Scripture to prophecies:

  1. God’s prophecies are infallible and come true 100% of the time, assuring us that God doesn’t lie and that we can trust Him;
  2. Prophecies are written to call people back to righteous living; and
  3. Prophecies give us a heads up about what is about to fall upon us and thus help us to persevere and to prepare.

How the United Nations figures in prophecy

The United Nations figures in prophecy

The flag of the United Nations. (Public domain as per UN policy.)

In the past I have written about United Nations treaties that have sought to overtake our national sovereignty, encumber our right to bear arms, and usurp our rights as parents. But I have failed to make the connection between the United Nations and prophecies in the Books of Revelation and Daniel. The connections explain the spiritual motivation behind the power grabs that are attempting to collapse these United States. Logically, it may be easy to understand that the US must collapse in order for a One/New World Order to prevail, since a liberty-loving and prosperous people would never submit their sovereignty to a foreign power. But understanding spiritually why we are being nationally sabotaged is much more significant.

Whether you are someone who attends church on a regular basis or you are completely agnostic, chances are that somewhere along the line you have heard about the Tower of Babel in Genesis, Chapter 11. This passage tells us about the building of the Tower of Babel that commenced after the period of the Flood of Noah. It was a point in history when mankind worshipped their achievements rather than worshipping God. But the tower was nothing more than a symptom of what was really wrong with that culture. The real problem was pride. It was driven by their desire for peace and significance that they believed they could accomplish through the consolidation of power. And like Satan himself, they thought they could ascend into heaven without worshipping God.

The power-hungry trait of opportunistic pride that uses the promises of peace through consolidation of nations is also a modern attribute of the UN. And again like Satan himself, many influential countries within the UN have perverted theological doctrines or are downright evil.

The United Nations portrays itself as our only hope for world peace. Daniel 8:25 tells us: “By peace, he (the Anti-Christ) shall destroy many.” And 1 Thessalonians 5:3 states: “For when they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes upon them.”

The Tower of Babel

Tower of Babel, ancient counterpart to the United NationsGenesis 11 isn’t the only account of a one world government gone awry. Daniel 7:23 prophetically states: The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all other kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, trample it and break it in pieces.”

Revelation 17 also gives us references the One/New World Order that the UN is trying to usher in when it speaks of a “great harlot” that sits on many waters. The Bible interprets the Bible and “many waters” in Revelation 17:15, which states: “And he (the angel) said to me, ‘The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.”

The Bible also interprets the Bible regarding nations being referred in the feminine sense when it is unfaithful to God. The Book of Hosea frequently compared an apostate Israel to a harlot, or one who is unfaithful.

All throughout Scripture, “apostate” means a falling away from the faith. When a harlot is used symbolically in Scripture, it represents an unfaithful government or nation, or one that has fallen away from its faith in God. Hosea 1:2b states: “Go, take yourself a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry for the land has committed great harlotry by departing from the Lord.”

In the case of the harlot in Revelation, the unfaithful government would be comprised of a many nation worldwide system that has turned away from God. This is further supported by the Scripture telling us that the harlot sits on a beast that is comprised of many nations that speak different languages

Revelation 17:15 interprets the meaning of this verse for us. It states: “…And he said to me, ‘The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, and nations and tongues.”

For years we have been taught that the seven heads represent the Seven Hills of Rome. That would have been a perfectly logical conclusion for someone living at the time the Book of Revelation was written, since Rome was often referred to as the City on Seven Hills. However, it is also feasible that the verse may be referring to the seven continents of the world. Revelation 17:15 makes it clear that this woman rides a Beast that came out of the many waters. And it is clear in the Scriptures that the many waters referred to represent the many nations of the world.

So far we know that in Genesis, Babylon was a one-world government, that a harlot represents an unfaithful nation, and that many waters consist of a government comprised of many nations.

Revelation 17:5 states: “And on her (the harlot’s) forehead a name was written: “Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots and the Abominations of the Earth.”

According to Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary, the biblical definition of a “Mystery” is the hidden, eternal plan of God that is being revealed to God’s people in accordance with His plan. In the Old Testament, “mystery” occurs only in the Aramaic sections of Daniel (Dan 2:18, 27-30, 47; 4:9)

In the New Testament, “mystery” refers to a secret that is revealed by God to His servants through His Spirit, meaning it is an open secret – or a secret to the rest of the world but something that is revealed to God’s servants.

Therefore, because Babylon is a “mystery” in the Revelation verse, it is not the physical location of Babylon, which has been identified throughout history as modern day Iraq. Since the context of the verse strongly speaks about a one world government, it would be logical to interpret this verse to mean that “mystery” Babylon would most likely be similar to the one world government established in Genesis – the only other place a one world government is mentioned.

The argument that Mystery Babylon is a one world government becomes stronger when one considers the characteristics that Genesis’ Babylon and Revelation’s Mystery Babylon have in common:

  1. Babylon in Genesis is one world united and apostate, and
  2. Babylon in Revelation is one world united and apostate.

Of course there is much more to this study. I have only scratched the surface in an attempt to create awareness of what the United Nations may really be about. If there is interest, future writings can include credible explanations for the 10 horns in Daniel and Revelation and also present an argument about why the idea of global warming is being forced upon us.

While we may find the UN offensive for many reasons, perhaps the main reason we should find it offensive has been overlooked: it is offensive to God; therefore, it should be offensive to us. It really may be that simple.
