Obamacare signups: six in first day
Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, is the top gun on Obamacare. On Wednesday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee had her at the green table. They must have asked her fifty times for figures on how many people have enrolled since the web site went live. She said only she would have those figures “by mid-November.” And now we know why. According to two separate reports, only six people enrolled in the first twenty-four hours that the site was live!
That’s right: six. Not six million. Not six hundred thousand. Not six thousand. Not even six hundred. Six.
Didn’t “Saturday Night Live” suggest the site could handle only six visitors at a time?
An Obamacare subpoena
The story broke at 9:00 p.m. on The Kelly File on the Fox News Channel. According to it, Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) of the House Oversight Committee filed a Freedom of Information Act request for anything in writing that said anything about enrollment. He got notes from the “war room” at the White House. Those notes told the tale.
Total people across the country who enrolled in Obamacare:
- In twenty-four hours: six. Six out of an alleged 4.7 million “unique visitors.” (So says Sharyl Attkisson at CBS News.)
- In thirty-six hours: 100.
- Later that day: 248.
No wonder Kathleen Sebelius did not want to name any figures. If they had anything close to the number of people enrolling that they claimed, or even expected, they would trumpet those figures, and not wait for a subpoena or FOIA demand.
Why only six?
Only two reasons make any sense. Neither reason reflects well on Obamacare or the government.
- The Web site is so bad, people can’t enroll even if they want to.
- People do get through, see what’s available, and won’t enroll.
Either way, this bodes very ill for Obamacare.
