Traitors among us

The Constitution, which sets forth the principle of rule of law, defines what is unconstitutional, and guarantees freedom of speech and other liberties of a Constitutional republic, and also describes the impeachment power. (How many know of the Jewish roots of this document?) Hypocrisy threatens Constitutional government. Could Israel use a constitution like this? More to the point: would a Convention of States save it, or destroy it? (Example: civil asset forfeiture violates the Constitution.) Quick fixes like Regulation Freedom Amendments weaken it. Furthermore: the Constitution provides for removing, and punishing, a judge who commits treason in his rulings. Furthermore, opponents who engage in lawfare against an elected President risk breaking the Constitution.

Traitors can come from a myriad of places – but none are more effective than those foxes that have been entrusted to watch the henhouse. We can debate if they exist in America and who they may be – with the man now occupying the White House being the first on many lists – however, there may be others that also qualify but slip under the radar.

The UN Arms Trade Treaty vote

Without barely a notice from the public, early Saturday morning on March 23rd, while most of us slept peacefully in our beds, the Senate voted 53 to 46 to prevent the United States from entering into an Arms Treaty with the United Nations that was still being written. The Hill reported that Republican Senator James Inhofe from Oklahoma stated: “We’re negotiating a treaty that cedes our authority to have trade agreements with our allies in terms of trading arms.” (Can anyone say “Israel?”) Of course there are many who have protested against this treaty believing that it would encumber our Second Amendment right to bear arms. Regardless, you would think that men and women who take an oath to preserve and protect our Constitution would not have to debate an issue such as this. It should be obvious that such a treaty is unconstitutional at best.

Fortunately, not all Democrats are bad. Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont proposed an amendment that no treaty should cede our authority to our allies. You would think that would be obvious. His amendment passed and our civil rights as delineated in our Constitution were barely preserved – but not by as huge a margin as it should have been.

What is a traitor?

46 would-be traitors almost signed our rights over to the UN.

The flag of the United Nations. (Public domain as per UN policy.)

According to our Constitution, a traitor is someone who shares vital national secrets with our enemies. By that definition, plotting to overthrow our government is not specifically mentioned. However, it is reasonable to argue that anyone that conspires – either intentionally or ignorantly – to overthrow our system of government should be called a traitor. If that person happens to be an elected official who has taken an oath to preserve and protect our Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic, then at the very least that person should be charged with Crimes against our Constitution and impeached.

If you believe, as I do, that they are nothing less than traitors, regardless of their intentions, then here are 46 foxes in our henhouse who should wear a red “T” on their chest designating them a Traitor, all of them United States Senators:

  • Baldwin (D-WI)
  • Baucus (D-MT)
  • Bennet (D-CO)
  • Blumenthal (D-CT)
  • Boxer (D-CA)
  • Brown (D-OH)
  • Cantwell (D-WA)
  • Cardin (D-MD)
  • Carper (D-DE)
  • Casey (D-PA)
  • Coons (D-DE)
  • Cowan (D-MA)
  • Durbin (D-IL)
  • Feinstein (D-CA)
  • Franken (D-MN)
  • Gillibrand (D-NY)
  • Harkin (D-IA)
  • Hirono (D-HI)
  • Johnson (D-SD)
  • Kaine (D-VA)
  • King (I-ME)
  • Klobuchar (D-MN)
  • Landrieu (D-LA)
  • Leahy (D-VT)
  • Levin (D-MI)
  • McCaskill (D-MO)
  • Menendez (D-NJ)
  • Merkley (D-OR)
  • Mikulski (D-MD)
  • Murphy (D-CT)
  • Murray (D-WA)
  • Nelson (D-FL)
  • Reed (D-RI)
  • Reid (D-NV)
  • Rockefeller (D-WV)
  • Sanders (I-VT)
  • Schatz (D-HI)
  • Schumer (D-NY)
  • Shaheen (D-NH)
  • Stabenow (D-MI)
  • Udall (D-CO)
  • Udall (D-NM)
  • Warner (D-VA)
  • Warren (D-MA)
  • Whitehouse (D-RI)
  • Wyden (D-OR)

It is too bad that our Executive Branch as well as our Judicial Branch is as corrupt as our Senate. If it weren’t, holding these Senators accountable in a real check and balance system would be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, it is likely they will go as unaffected as Eric Holder in the Fast and Furious scandal, or our State Department in Benghazi.

What to do?

So, what do you do when the whole system is corrupt? Perhaps we can take some advice from others who have prevailed in their fight against tyranny. While many have memorized the preamble to our Declaration of Independence and regard those words as incredibly wise, there are other statements made within it that are just as worthy of memorization. My suggestions on what those words are as follows:

…that to secure these rights (life liberty and the pursuit of happiness), governments are instituted among them, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed (that’s us). That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its power in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness…But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government…

The time to abolish our government may not be advisable but perhaps the time to throw off those who are running it and reclaim what passed patriots risked life and limb to secure, is very much our right and our duty now.

America – how sweet the sound – may God grant her the grace to endure the ravages of traitors and morons.
