Democrats: the Godless party

Published

on

A rainbow, symbol of the covenant of God with man, appears over Jerusalem.

Before today, two obscure groups vied for the title of “Godless party.” Their names were the Secular Coalition for America and the League of Militant Atheists. But now the Democrats have eclipsed both, if anyone outside their members knew their names. How did the Democrats become the Godless party? By removing every mention of God, and of Jerusalem, from their platform.

Democrats go without God

Politico.com compared the 2008 and 2012 platforms of the Democratic Party side-by-side. In 2008, the Democrats said this of Jerusalem:

Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.

Not today. The Democratic platform of 2012 does not mention Jerusalem at all.

Neither do the Democrats mention God. David Brody at CBN.com does his own side-by-side. In 2008, Democrats spoke of a government that would help every American develop his “God-given talents.” The 2012 platform does not mention God, either as a Giver of talents or in any other role. They say this about talent:

Each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.

Our talent? Our drive? That sentence has two things wrong with it:

  1. God does give talents. But today the Democrats will not take note of this.
  2. We, our, and us don’t agree with “each one.” Pronouns like these talk about a collective.

Thus the Democrats have replaced God, not even with one person at a time, but with all people acting together.

Brody points out that the Democrats do talk about faith. But they don’t mention God. So one must ask: faith in what? The Democrats won’t say. Not anymore.

What this means

Conservatives and Republicans said plenty about the Democrats’ not mentioning Jerusalem. Newsmax.com quoted several. One, Jennifer Rubin, called the Democrats’ platform “radical.” Later she described a “firestorm” of criticism. Mitt Romney’s campaign called it “unfortunate.” (Then again, Romney said very clearly that “Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.”) But Rubin did not stop there. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, ever ready with a good quote, said that Michael Oren, Israeli Ambassador to the USA, said that Republicans were putting Israel in danger. Oren denied that flatly. (And no one who knew his historical work would ever imagine him saying a thing like that.)

Not mentioning God is worse. Might Barack Obama want to promote himself as God? At least one of his supporters wants to promote him that way. According to The Blaze, Activist James Hickman made up a special calendar in Obama’s honor. He called it “Keep the Dream.” The August picture is telling. Hickman used a picture of Barack Obama’s short form “certification of live birth.” Then he superimposed the text of John 3:16, and the headline “Heaven Sent.”

Just as likely, the Democrats decided to describe religion in a way that anyone should remember:

the opiate of the masses.

Actually, Paul of Tarsus said this would happen, nearly 2,000 years ago. ARVE Error: need id and provider
