Sarah Palin smear try backfires
The old-line liberal media are trying again to smear Sarah Palin. This time, it’s backfiring.
What is it this time?
Two days ago, Alaskan officials released 25,000 e-mails sent to and from Sarah Palin while she was governor of Alaska. They released these to comply with a State open-records law request. The hard-copy release was sensational enough: boxes and boxes of paper that took a fleet of trucks to haul. (Your editor knows from experience how much space a hard-copy document release, to comply with a subpoena, can take up.)
But then The New York Times and The Washington Post did something they’ve never done before. They asked their readers to help them pore through those e-mails for anything “newsworthy”—meaning anything embarrassing.
Has The New York Times now become The Daily Kos? (Or The Daily Sulz, or The Daily Pinch?) Is The Washington Post contending for this dubious honor? So it would seem. Investors Business Daily put it this way:
They hate her—they really hate her.
Circulation at both papers is surely down to their hard-core “true believers.” Asking them to look at these e-mails and suggest “angles” for reporters to follow up on, is like throwing chum to sharks. And what’s more, everybody knows it.
Did they get anything on Sarah Palin?

No. All that they have found, shows that Sarah Palin was just a governor doing her job. The Los Angeles Times is at least gracious enough to admit this. When Sarah Palin vetoed a lot of gravy (mostly from oil royalties) for local pet projects, people squealed, but she was firm. And when Exxon-Mobil stalled on cleaning up after its supertanker Valdez struck an iceberg and spilled its cargo, Palin reacted in outrage—and made no excuses for the company.
In fact, Politico.com embarrassed itself yesterday. Paul Goldman and Mark Rozell wrote this piece alleging that Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann are bitter rivals. But in the first version that Politico published, they quoted her as saying,
I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else.
Sarah Palin’s office caught the misquote and lambasted Politico.com. So the site took down the phrase “she said” and the quotation marks. They even admit that the quotation marks appeared in Goldman and Rozell’s original copy:
Palin’s bus tour had some of the hallmarks of a primal scream: “I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else.” Looking at it through her eyes, she has a point.
By convention, when you quote a person’s thoughts, and not spoken words, you leave off the quote marks. Editors have known this almost since Gutenberg invented movable type. Can the editors at Politico.com really have forgotten this?
What’s their motive?
Their motive, as IBD masterfully says, is twofold:
- They want to prove that they’re still the red-hot papers of the Watergate era. (At least, that applies to the print papers. Politico.com doesn’t have that excuse.)
- They don’t want Sarah Palin to run for President.

That last motive is more important. We hear every day that the Republican Party would never nominate Sarah Palin, and even if they did, the voters wouldn’t elect her. So say the polls. But those pollsters never call everybody, and always seem to call the same people. (Maybe they’re calling the NYT and WP readers who are playing amateur research assistant with the e-mails.) But if Sarah Palin really has no chance of becoming President, why would they waste their time?

Maybe they’re not wasting time after all. Or maybe they are doing worse than waste their time. Everyone who cares to, has read Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals. They know the game. And now that at least one of these organs has tripped over itself and is now making lame excuses, the game is up. So Sarah Palin might have a better shot at the White House than she ever had before—and certainly more than some people give her credit for.

This chasing, harrassing, and attempted entrapment of Sarah Palin reminds me of an old “Tom and Jerry” cartoon film.
Tom, the big cat, and Jerry, the little mouse who Tom is always trying to trap and instead always makes a fool of himself. Jerry just keeps bouncing along, happy as can be, hardly paying attention to Tom’s foolishness.
It must be obvious by now, after all the trivializing, attempts at character assassination, and general distortions that those who demean Sarah’s intelligence are, after all, the stupid ones. But, I say to them “Have at it, it’s free advertising for Sarah’s basic goodness!”
Even avid Democrats must recognize this if they have a shred of intelligence. Of course, I’m not qualified to comment on Democrat neurosis.

I like your thought process Stan. I actually think a Ron Paul/Sarah Palin or a Sarah Palin/Ron Paul ticket would be great.They both generate a lot of controversy and they have a large loyal fan base. The news media fears both of them because they resonate with the average citizen who loves God, Country, and the free enterprise system. If they include Judge Andrew Napolitano in as if he will automatically become one of their advisors, then they would also gain a lot of knowledge in the field of law.This combination may well be the one that can unseat the democrats and Obama in particular. Of course the GOP need to work hard at elimination the dead beat welfare vote, not those who are legally incapacitated and in need of help. Have a good day all!
Ron Paul is not a true Republican he is a libertarian and does not stand for Christian conservative values. Like protecting the Unborn. I’m ok your ok we can all do what we want type thinking. Him and Sarah Palin are not on the same page on many issues. He is a fiscal conservative. See him at the debate tomorrow night on CBS.
Well, I do know one thing! The wife and I will not be voting for anyone on the GOP ticket unless we know positively their stand on Deporting all Illegal Aliens from the United States of America and that will save us at least $100 billion + dollars a year just in the Federal Benefits for households in the U.S. that are headed by at least one Illegal Alien. And, where they stand on Secureing the SW Border, also, on drilling for the 23% of the world Oil Reserve we hold here in the United States and Off Shore. And Yes, I do know the majority of it is Oil Sand, but they already know how to get it out.
That’s real smart! Don’t vote for an imperfect Republican and let Obama win another four years so he can completely ruin our country.

But that is silly and dumb. It’s the media driven slander, the relentless lies they push, their utter contempt for all thing conservative (that a majority of America adheres to). It’s one part misogyny and another part anti-American. She can’t be taken down because she is not wrong. The haters cannot b stopped because they are not accountable. It is an endless cycle that America needs to defeat. Just once, once, I would like to see our President say knock it off. But he won’t because he wants the attacks to continue. I will add that I want to see Obama’s emails from the Senate and his college records and so does millions of Americans, but the media does not. The righteous will take this country back and the Tea Party will not rest until every oath breaker is gone. Americans have disdain for the media and they are suffering but not yet finished. I don’t know how many callers to national and local talk radio accuse the host and “you guys” beating on Obama all the time. When asked to name something positive Obama has done for the country, there’s a few seconds of silence and then the name-calling continues.

Sarah Palin stepped down to run as Vice Presedent along side Presidential hopeful John McCain.
Not quite. She stayed on as Governor during that run. But she stepped down after it became clear that she could not do her job as Governor and defend herself against all those bogus ethics charges at one and the same time.
Is anyone a history fam? Anyone remember ANYthing about Abrahmm Lincoln? He wasn’t Ivy League, he was mainly self-educated (mark of a truly intelligent and driven person). He was tall and gangly, not good-looking and had a voice that could have shredded paper. People laughed at him. The papers poked fun at him. He was ridiculed. His opponent and most mouthy souls were certain he was non-electable. When Lincoln spoke people listened. He was one of them. He made sense and was full of common sense. He was elected!! The opposition was stunned – HOW could this have happened? Well, guess what? Yep, the southern states secede from the union and we had the Civil War. This wasn’t new people. This had been brewing since shortly after we became the United States. Do you know that at one time New York was all set to secede from the union, long before the south did? Read your history if you don’t know that. Lincoln had the full responsibility on his shoulders for what would happen to this country. He had morons for advisors, sycophants and idiots after him constantly. He kept his own counsel, did a lot of thinking and prayed for guidance. When he finally came across 3 generals who knew what they were doing and could be counted on to do it, (they were Grant, Sherman and Meade) he managed to hold this country together. Four years later the opposition were certain he’d never win. Just in time Lincoln’s hand-picked generals handed him some momentous wins. The outcome? Lincoln won in the biggest landslide!! NEVER count out the underdog. NEVER underestimate their intelligence and resourcefulness. Most of all, NEVER underestimate the people. SOMEtimes they’ll fool you and wake up from their lethargy and vote for the right person at just the right time!!!

@ Dr. Bonnie, I love history but I don’t follow the history which comes from schools because for the most part it’s bogus. I study diaries, politics, and actual documentation from the Civil War which carries a ton more weight than you’ll find in any history books passed out in our educational system. It’s widely known that the “winner” of any war writes the history. Obama is nothing more than Lincoln on steroids. I giggle when misguided history majors will visit us, study actual documents, and leave knowing that what they are being taught is crap.
Several of your facts about Lincoln and his picking of his generals are false. Lincoln originally wanted Lee but Lee refused. Lee wouldn’t fight his countrymen so he had to go for the drunkard, Grant. Grant had lost his command due to his drinking and had actually left the military. It wasn’t till the war was about to break out that he decided to jump back in because he didn’t want to miss out on anything. Many union officers were totally against him because of his issues and nobody was loyal to him except Lincoln. Lincoln was a liar and a thief which made them best buddies. He had a license to steal from the south and he used it A LOT. He wasn’t a champion for the slaves like the schools would have their students believe either. It bothers me every time I hear that. Matter of fact he was willing to let southern states keep their slaves two decades longer if they didn’t leave the union. That fact came about after a letter to a couple of southern governors surfaced. The information given about him is as false as the stories suggesting Gen. Nathan Bedford Forest was the father of the night riders which disbanded before his death and reformed afterwards renaming themselves the KKK.
The south was further behind the north in their weaponry. Many soldiers weren’t even outfitted with uniforms nor were they fed well. They were a smaller force with much less formal military training but they stood up to the opposition winning many major battles for five years. Had they been better equipped I have no doubt they’d have stomped the north.
Back in the day the parties were switched….Conservatives were the democrats back then and Lincoln was a Republican.
This is the reason our people are misguided. It’s because our TRUE history has been covered up.

I used to be a Palin fan when she started running for VP. In the past 3 years, all I have heard from her is the same five general statements over and over again in that whiny, screamy voice. I believe what they were talking about concerning the oil spill clean up, was it was still going on when she became governor and at one point Exxon was trying to say they have finished, when they hadn’t done everything they agreed to do. We all know she wasn’t governor when Valdez sprung a leak, but the clean up took years to effect. If I am not mistaken that is what they were talking about.
